My name is Noman, and I live in the city of Karachi. This story is about my village when we used to live there. My entire family lived in the village. I was around 10 years old when I used to help my father at his shop after coming back from school. Everything was going well.
NIGHT TIME
Often, it would get late at night. There was a shortcut to get home that was quite deserted, but no one dared to take it at night because villagers said that anyone who took that path would die. This fear was widespread among the villagers.
One day, some city folks came to our village, wanting to know about this shortcut. However, the villagers refused to tell them. Then, I took them to an elderly man who knew everything about this path. The elderly man then told them the whole story.
TEN YEARS AGO
Ten years ago, this path used to be very common. People would frequently travel through it without any fear. There was a girl in our village named Meena. She was the most beautiful and intelligent girl in the village at that time, excelling in her studies.
This path was her daily route to school. One day, as usual, she was on her way to school through this path. That day, she didn’t return from school by evening, causing a panic in the village. Meena’s body was found on that very path. Since then, anyone who took that path would die.
The city folks laughed off the story and said that nothing like that happens. They decided to go and shoot there that night. Despite the villagers’ attempts to stop them, they went ahead.
The next day, one of their team members returned. When the villagers asked about the rest of the team, he didn’t respond and locked himself in his room. When the villagers went to check the shortcut path, they found all the city folks dead.
They found the cameras they had set up for recording. The villagers and police then tried to investigate the remaining team member, but he wouldn’t open the door. When they broke down the door, they found him dead as well; he had hanged himself.
When the police investigated and checked the recordings from the cameras, they saw the shadow of a girl killing them one by one. It was probably Meena’s spirit. The police couldn’t find any evidence, and the case was closed. The shortcut path was permanently closed.
To this day, no one knows what happened to Meena on that road or who killed her. And now Meena's spirit wanders there.
