Dark Night of the Soul: A Haunting Tale of Life and Death
The Dark Night of the Soul: A Ghost’s Last Wish to Save His Family
My name is SHAHZAIB. It was a cold December night and I had stayed late at the office working. I finished up my work and set out for home. When I went outside there was no one around. A winter night can be quite eerie. My home was 20 minutes away so I started walking home on foot. It was 2 AM and there was no one else on the deserted street. I felt a bit frightened because there is a cemetery on the way to my house and it was already quite late.
DESERTED ROAD
Anyway as I was walking down the deserted road I suddenly heard footsteps behind me. I turned on my mobile light and looked back but there was no one there. I turned off the mobile torch and started walking again. After a short while I heard a man's voice. I turned on the torch and saw a young man, around 30 to 35 years old walking quickly toward me. From his appearance and clothes he seemed to come from a good family.
I asked him Is everything okay? He stopped me and apologetically said Sorry my name is Kashan. I live nearby. I was actually scared to walk here alone so I thought I would cross this scary path with you. I replied with a smile I was scared too.
We started talking and suddenly a bunch of dogs began barking at us. I tried to chase them away but the man stood there calmly though his face showed strange anxiety as if he was in a hurry. After a lot of effort I managed to drive the dogs away and asked him Aren't you afraid of the dogs?
He shook his head and said Let's leave quickly. I started walking faster with him. Suddenly the dogs began barking at us again but this time I noticed that the dogs were barking loudly at the man, not at me.
For a moment I thought he might be a thief. Anyway this time he was angry and told me Forget the dogs and leave quickly His changed behavior scared me and I started walking faster with him. He seemed very anxious as if he was in a hurry and kept telling me to hurry up.
DOG
Soon we saw a family lying on the ground. I told him that there might have been an accident and we should help. He didn’t respond just nodded. I quickly checked the woman and child they were unconscious but still breathing.
I told the man They are alive call an ambulance and I ran to the man lying on the other side. I saw that blood was flowing from his head and he was lying face down.
When I turned him over his face was covered in blood, and in the darkness I couldn’t see his face clearly. I asked the man next to me Did you call the ambulance? but he had disappeared. I thought he might have run away in fear.
I gathered my courage and immediately called the ambulance and the police. After a while the ambulance and police arrived and took the victims to the hospital. The police asked me questions and I went home.
The next morning I went to the hospital to check on their condition and I found out that the woman and child were fine.
When the woman regained consciousness she told me that a speeding car had hit them and then fled.
The man who was with them had died on the spot.
By coincidence his body passed right in front of me and I was shocked to see that he was the same man who had been walking with me that night
. This meant that the man’s spirit was asking for my help.
Many questions started swirling in my mind and I felt dizzy. I composed myself and went back home.
Now I understand why that man was so anxious and why he kept urging me to hurry he needed my help for his wife and child and there was no one else on that deserted road. The next day the man’s body was buried in the same cemetery that is on the way to my house. I attended his funeral and now I no longer feel afraid when I pass that street.
